An Uphill Battle aka An Awesome Life

Everything worthwhile is always uphill ~ John C. Maxwell

If you are on the right path, it will always be uphill ~ Henry B. Eyring

Life…

Maybe it’s my 6.5 month pregnant hormones. Maybe it’s my 3 children. Maybe it’s my husband. Maybe it’s my work life. Maybe it’s my church life. Maybe it’s me trying to be everything to everyone all the time…but LIFE? Life is hard. {But really, it’s probably the pregnant hormones…those things? Beasts}.

But what I’ve learned? Life is meant to be an uphill battle. If life weren’t a challenge, keeping with the metaphor of the uphill, then we would be going downhill. And what’s downhill? Nothing worth writing home about.

But is it possible to find joy and happiness in life when it always feels like we’re trudging uphill? When life feels so hard…every…day? (or maybe not EVERY day, just a few days a week…or month…)

Yes. Yes it is. And here are 2 simple ways to do just that:

1. Live in the present.

If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future .If you are at peace, you are living in the present.

Focus on living in the moment, not stressing about the past or being anxious about the future. Easier said than done right?! Right.  When you are living in the present, you are living where life is happening, and that’s the goal! Live where life is happening!

2. Gratitude. If we appreciate all that we’re fortunate to have, rather than spending our time and energy going after what we don’t have, we’ll experience more joy in our daily lives.

Enjoy the little things-2

I have a journal that I write down the best moment of my day every evening before bed. I know others who use “The 5 Minute Journal,” and still others who keep a running note in their tablet or phone of all the things they’re grateful for. It doesn’t matter how you notice and track your gratitude, just that you do it. Write down what you’re grateful for.

To sum up: your life is meant to be an awesome uphill battle. It’s a good sign if you’re always running into new challenges, that means your actually growing and learning! So live in the present, where life is happening, and practice gratitude on a daily basis for all of the amazing blessings in your life {because really? you are REALLY blessed}.

Now go out there and Carpe that Diem. Make your Life Extraordinary!
